Application Method of Stirred Tank Reactor

2019/1/27

People often ask what is the use method of magnetic stirred tank reactor. Simple batch operation and continuous operation are two commonly used operation modes of stirred tank reactor. Each operation mode has its own characteristics. Different operation modes are suitable for different situations, so what is the specific situation?

The characteristics of simple batch operation are as follows: reactants are loaded at one time, all reactants are discharged after the reaction is completed, and there is neither feeding nor unloading in the middle. The suitable reaction types for this operation include gas phase reaction, liquid phase reaction and liquid-solid multiphase reaction, and suitable production types.
  1. Simple batch operation
The characteristics of simple batch operation are as follows: reactants are loaded at one time, all the reactants are discharged after the reaction is completed without adding or unloading. The suitable reaction types for this operation include gas-phase reaction, liquid-phase reaction and liquid-solid multiphase reaction. The suitable production types include: one-time peace (other production after one production), small-scale production. Many pharmaceutical reaction processes and raw materials. This method is used in the fermentation process.
The advantages of this method of operation are as follows:
  (1) High conversion can be achieved by prolonging the reaction time and using soft and small reaction space.
  (2) The operation flexibility is large, and the same reactor can be used to produce many products. Most of the multi-functional reactors in the market belong to this operation mode.
  (3) The reactor is simple in structure and easy to clean. It only needs general cleaning after the reaction is completed.
However, this method also has its disadvantages: first, the operation cost is high, because it belongs to intermittent operation, and the parameters must be monitored and controlled at any time when the reaction process changes with time; also, the parameters cannot be fixed under the optimal conditions, and cleaning is needed after each reaction is completed; second, there are differences in product quality and yield between batches, which brings difficulties to production control. Nevertheless, simple batch operation is still stirring. Tank reactor is often used as an operation mode.
  2. Continuous operation
The characteristics of the continuous operation of stirred tank reactor are as follows:
  (1) The reactants and products enter and exit continuously at the same rate, so that the material quantity in the reactor remains unchanged.
  (2) After stabilization, all points in the reactor are fully mixed, and the composition is uniform, and does not change with time.
